"Don't get me wrong, I like Riley as much as the next guy, but what do you see in him exactly? I find him so... ordinary. Also, watched the first three episodes of season 7 and damn, James Marsters can act. I almost have a man crush on him."

(Publishing it because it’s RFAD - also I totally approve of the man crush on Spike!)

In a world like the Buffyverse, he sure looks ordinary. He doesn’t have supernatural powers, he’s not the smartest guy in the world, I know that. I loved Riley since the first time I watched the show (maybe it helped that I wasn’t really a Bangel shipper - because I can totally understand that people have been upset that Buffy found a new guy and looked like she was ~over~ Angel so shortly after their break-up). But I loved him even more when I saw how unpopular he was. Because he’s like a unrecognized hero to me. Take a look at it: this man had everything (used to be the best, a great career ahead, friends, and a mother figure -far from perfect, I know, but imagine the feeling he must had when he realized she fooled him!). And then he lost it. Or choose to let it go. For love. For Buffy. Sure, he’s far from perfect (which character is though), and I must say that I do like S5 Riley a little less - blame the writers!! But hey, he has insecurities, that only makes him more likeable to me (and um he’s not the only one being insecure whenever being in a relationship with a Slayer, just sayin’). I also think that he & Buffy were really cute together, and I loved their relationship. He made Buffy happy, and gave her a nice, normal, light-hearted relationship, and I enjoyed watching that. And he’s the cutest cowboy guy! Who can resist that?!
