I’ve been thinking about how to write this letter for two days now, ever since Riley Finn Appreciation Day was announced. Because here’s the thing: you’re not one of my favorite characters on Buffy. You’re really, really not. Most of the episodes you’re in? When I rewatch them now, and you have your scenes, I tend to cringe. I’m sorry about that, actually. It’s a bit unfair to you.

Here’s the thing about you: I really like you, actually. If I ever met you, I think we’d get along pretty well. You really are a fantastic guy. Where other people’s lives are concerned, they come first above your own. You try to make the best of bad situations constantly. You spent your life under the thumb of a woman who wanted to make you a hero, and you know what? You rose to the occasion. You did become a hero. You killed dangerous demons and saved lives, and continue to do so. Not everybody can do that, you know? Not everybody is able to take on that kind of challenge. Don’t forget that.
